Hi Everyone: Our delegates to the South West Section Meeting in Solvang were Suann Prigmore, Julie Ostendorf, Barbara Crooker, Lois Erickson, Audrey Schutte and Donna Taylor. The meetings were well attended – over 180 registered. Flying in was wonderful and weather there perfect. NEXT SECTION MEETINGS: Scheduled for May 13/15 2005 Van Nuys with San Fernando Valley 99s hosting; Sept. 30, 2005 at Las Vegas; and May 12/14, 2006 at Minden, Nev. At the Saturday banquet we heard a wonderful speaker, a lady who has flown the Atlantic Ocean over 700 times in small airplanes, delivering them to many locations for owners or new owners. Her acceptance at pilot in places like Iceland were insulting and sometimes funny. The best part of the banquet, however, was when the Woman Pilot of The Year was awarded to our own Suann Prigmore. She was thrilled but not as much as those of us sitting in the audience. Many of us cried tears of joy and pride. The local newspaper, Record Searchlight did a small article on her. Wish they would have done more, but it was a nice item. Suann was selected from the entire SW Section of over 1500 members. We understand that Carol Andrews from the Sutter Buttes Chapter was also considered. Carol is a wonderful person who has done a lot for her chapter and aviation. Our chapter also won the Aero Space Award – thanks to Suann because the information was gathered and sent in by her. The Areo Space Award is a lovely etched glass piece that we are wanting to display. Other BIG NEWS: Suann has submitted her Echo Tango program with her insurance payment and to her delight, Avemco agreed to accept it as above and beyond safety training. Suann is going to try to get Martha & John King to consider it as one of the safety tapes. REMINDER: You need to get your ECHO TANGO flights completed and the paperwork back to Suann. At the November meeting Sue Kerr will present a program on flight emergencies to coordinate with the ECHO TANGO flight portion.
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE There are over 5500 Ninety Nines in the world. There are new chapters in Russia, Mexico and China. The next International Conference is in New Zealand, Aug. 21-26, 2005. If you would like to go to the International Conference as a delegate from our chapter, be sure to let Suann know.
Chairman's Corner: Receiving the WPOY in the non-professional category was the highlight of my life. Never would have imagined it! I am excited, proud and humbled at the same time because there are so many very talented 99s in the SW Section. I never would have sent in the paperwork had I not been encouraged by so many of you. I've said it before, I said it at my acceptance comments and I will say it again, "The 99s have meant more to me than anything else, I worked harder to learn to fly than at anything else, my best friends are 99s, and flying has been the greatest thing I have ever done." Thanks to all of you.
Aviation 101: Basic Flying Rules: Try to stay in the middle of the air. Do not go near the edges of it. The edges of the air can be recognized by the appearance of ground, buildings, sea, trees the interstellar space. It is much more difficult to fly there.
FLY WITH FLAIR!
