Lois Sweeney and Cheryl Knight (66)

HI EVERYONE:

Like the picture above of Cheryl and Lois?  Cheryl is our new 66, taking lessons at Jim&I Aviation.  We were all standing and demonstrating the different configuration of your airplane  using your arms as wings, hands as ailerons, feet as elevator and your tush as rudder.  No kidding!

Last meeting was fun and a great learning time.  We also met Shelly Hutson who is taking aviation (and other) classes at Shasta College and working with Julie Ostendorf.  Sue Kerr and Suann Prigmore had developed a quiz, flash cards (of airport signs) and demonstration by members of certain configurations of your aircraft when doing certain maneuvers.  Our prize for right answers was M&Ms.  But Suann even brought a cake and some punch to finish off with.  I have talked Suann into another quiz about the airport signs….because I flunked it the first time.

NEXT MEETING:  Sue Kerr has been working on getting us a tour of the tower to see the new radar equipment.  If she is successful, we will still meet at Benton on Nov. 14 at 7.  Watch for an E-mail update. (Or call Suann).

FUTURE MEETINGS:  We are changing the format a bit.  We want more learning time for programs, aviation safety and possible video instruction.  It will be more fun and educational.  Our business will be conducted on the following Wednesday at a restaurant at 11:30 for the Board and any of you who want to come.  Usually at the Cheesecake Factory on Cypress, across from Taylor Motors.  Watch for an E-mail from our chairman.   In this effort, we are trying to arrange for a big screen TV with a CD and/or video player so we can use it when we have a program needing it.  Meanwhile, Donna Taylor has offered her home in her play room if we have such a program.  Or perhaps we would even go to Civil Air Patrol or ???

CORNING EAA:  Program will be a talk on aviation accidents by an FAA counselor.  Lunch will be tri-tip and chicken for only $5.00

JOINT SECTION MEETING:  Next September 21 thru 23rd, 2006 the Southwest Section will have a joint Section Meeting with the Northwest Section.  It will be in Ashland, Oregon at the Ashland Springs Hotel.  If you think you may go, you need to make your reservations now.  You can call the hotel at 1-888-795-4545.  The Ninety Nines block of rooms are under #858 and are $139+tax.  Make your reservations now, you can always cancel later.

ECHO TANGO:  Suann needs your forms before the Christmas party

IN THE WORKS:  Barbara Crooker is arranging motels for the Winter Board Meeting in Redding on Jan.28, 2006.  We will take a vote on donating to the Fly Out For Breast Cancer program.  We are working on a program format for a Flying Companion Seminar next spring.

NEW HORIZONS:  You remember our young new member, Leigh Guinn.  Well, her recovery did not go well.  Her family and loving husband Robert were with her when she passed on to New Horizons on October 16th.  Our chapter has donated a brick to the Whitmore Community Center.  The Center is finishing up its work by the sale of “bricks” with names engraved.  Robert recommended it as Leigh loved that community.  We are really going to miss that young lady.  She was obviously very special. (See picture )

Philosophy:  We may not have it all together, but together we have it all.
