Hi Everyone:
Our Flying Companion Seminar had seven participants (think we had five presenters). It was a success and educational to everyone. One of the repeated recommendations from the participants was that we do more on the planning on charts. Some more on the radio for emergency. All of the program was good, just that we need to revise our schedule so that more morning time is used for charts and trip planning. I think we had some of the mose knowledgeable people we have ever had. Julie did a great job on bringing food and water. Thank you Julie! Suann made a brief opening presentation. Sue Kerr instruction on how and why the airplane flies. Barbara Crooker actually had her airplane out front and did a walk-around along with showing the class the radios, GPS and controls. Audrey Schutte covered weather in a gentle way. We didn’t want to scare them. Donna Taylor briefed them on how to use the radio, how to contact the tower, Center and transponder.
COMPASS ROSE PAINTING: NOW, Plan to be at Redding Municipal Airport at 7AM on Saturday, April 2nd to help paint a new compass rose in front of the Jet Center. Barbara Crooker and someone helping her will try to get the rose outlined on Friday so the 80 foot rose will be ready to paint as soon as we tape the lines on Saturday. By that time the weather should be warm enough to start painting. If weather is cold, we will have to try to figure another day. Everyone pray for nice warm but not hot weather!! BE SURE YOU COME TO HELP. FLY IN IF YOU CAN. BRING A PLASTIC BAG FOR YOUR SHOES WHEN FINISHED….THEY WILL BE WHITE AND BLUE. Bring own lunch or most of us thought we would buy lunch at the Deli.
POKER RUN: This will be fun and hope for better participation this year. We are working on how to have our Poker Run participants that heave experimental aircraft eligible. Possible the EAA will hold the poker run and therefore they can participate but the proceeds will go toward our chapter’s scholarship. Barbara Crooker and Audrey Schutte will be informing us as this proceeds. (June 11th at 9AM)
FATHER’S DAY June 19th: At the last meeting we started on our plans for the Father’s Day breakfast at Benton Field. Julie is planning to organize the food again, she needs help of at least 3 to 4 people on the Saturday (June 18th 9AM to 3PM) so we will have all food ready to cook. So far we have three people to come to Julie’s home on Saturday. Then we need you to help cook and break eggs, serve and clean tables on Sunday morning. This was a good money-maker and lots of fun because you meet hundreds of pilots that morning. COME and help.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Barbara says the dues are coming in nicely. If you have not sent yours, send a check for $20 to Mt. Shasta 99s, P.O.Box 493982, Redding, CA 96049-3982 as soon as you can.
FAA SAFETY MEETING: We had planned to bake 3” cookies for the FAA Safety Meeting, but it was cancelled. Seems they were not quite ready to display the new radar system at Redding tower. We will try to have the cookies for the meeting when rescheduled as the $1 donation per cookie is to go to our scholarship program. When you get the next notice for same, plan to make 3” cookies but be sure to tell Suann what kind of cookie you plan to make. You can e-mail her the information.
ANNIVERSARY: We plan to celebrate our 30th anniversary at the Taylor’s following the Palms to Pines Air Race (Aug. 5,6,7) on Aug. 13th at 6:30. Donna Taylor will send out invitations to former members on any addresses she can find. If any of you have a current address for a former member, please e-mail it to Donna or send it by mail. Bring any scrapbook you might have or pictures. This will be a real “trip down memory lane”. Lee Agnew – THIS MEANS YOU!!!
Last Meeting: Audrey Schutte gave an excellent review on turbulence of all categories along with discussion on microburst. It was excellent. Thank you Audrey!
AVIATION 101: There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but there are only 2 ways out of this airplane.
